The Start

Hello

I am studying at Åland University of Applied Sciences and me and my friend Simon Bengtz are going to use this blog to report to you how our examination project is progressing.

We are going to electrical convert a Volkswagen buss from 1979. Paf is funding this project and they are going to use the car as a beach party van and as a VIP transportation car. The purpose of the project is to show how you convert a car and to show that Åland is the perfect electrical car paradise.

We started on this project on the 15 November 2012 and spent the winter getting a budget together. In March 2013 we got our car and we fell instantly in love.

The minibus is trying to hide

We got it delivered to our place and we started to inspect it.

Minibus delivery

It only has 4 big places that are rusted and it has a few bumps but other than that it is in "good" condition.
New brakes and a repaint is the major things that needs to be done.

We have ordered the motor and control box from a company in Italy. In the beginning we were going to build our own controller but we asked our self “why reinvent the wheel”, so we are going to focus or energy on marketing Åland as a electric car paradise and writing an manual for converting a car.

A local company changes other companies UPS batteries and often the batteries is not bad it is just past the best before sticker. So we are going to buy those batteries for a cheap sum. Most people when they convert a car they use lithium but they are super expensive and using old UPS batteries is a more nature friendly choice.

Let the work begin
Right now we are planing on what spare parts we are going to need and were the battery pack is going to be. The car is going to be delivered June 2014 to PAF.
